Many research materials have released information on how much people forget. It has been mentioned that people may forget what they learned in 20 minutes or people forget 80% Taught in Classrooms after 30 Days.
According to Work-Learning Research, forgetting may depend on many circumstances. The research explored 14 research articles and examined 69 conditions in over 1,000 learners.
It concluded the following points:

1. “The amount a learner will forget varies depending on many things. We as learning professionals will be more effective if we make decisions based on a deep understanding of how to minimize forgetting and enhance remembering.” These may include the type of material being learned, the learner’s prior knowledge, motivation to learn and learning methods. The report also mentioned contextual cues in the learning and remembering situations, amount of time the learning has to be retained and the difficulty of the retention test as additional factors.
2. “Rules-of-thumb that show people forgetting at some pre-defined rate are just plain false. In other words, learning gurus and earnest bloggers are wrong when they make blanket statements like, “People will forget 40% of what they learned within a day of learning it.”
3. “Learning interventions can produce profound improvements in long-term remembering. In other words, learning gurus are wrong when they say that training is not effective.”
4. “Different learning methods produce widely different amounts of forgetting. We as learning professionals can be more effective if we take a research-based approach and utilize those learning methods that are most effective.”

To effectively learn, be genuinely interested in the topic to be learned or find something interesting about it. Practice what learning methods work best and enjoy the learning process.
